Theology/ Open-rank Professor – Tenure Track in Liturgical Studies (History of Liturgy and Liturgical Theology)
The Department of Theology at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for two open-rank professorships in Liturgical Studies, one in history of liturgy and another in liturgical theology. The starting date for these positions will be August 25, 2025. A PhD or equivalent in liturgical studies or a closely related discipline is expected, though exceptional ABD candidates may also be considered. Responsibilities will include teaching and mentoring students at all levels—doctoral (and pre-doctoral), ministerial, and undergraduate. The successful candidates will show evidence of strong scholarship and a trajectory toward a field-leading contribution to liturgical studies, or an established record of such a contribution in the case of senior scholars. They will also be sympathetic to the mission of the University of Notre Dame, which seeks a distinctive educational and scholarly excellence that is founded on its Catholic identity. Serve as a member of the liturgy team assisting with planning, preparation, and student liturgical minister formation. Coordinate chaplains’ outreach to Latinx students, faculty and staff. Coordinate marriage preparation. Some retreat work. Reports to associate director.
