Mission Statement

The Eucharistic Prayer and Theology Seminar, a scholarly application of the lex orandi lex credendi axiom, devotes its sessions to the study of both the classical Eucharistic Prayers and to the new EPs of modern or relatively modern national, ethnic, or church groups. The studies, based on papers written by members of the group, or on EPs written or selected by them, have alternatively a literary and a theological focus, depending on the nature of the particular work being discussed.

2010 Academy Meeting Agenda

  1. Examination of the upcoming new—a la Liturgiam authenticam—translations of the Eucharistic Prayers of the Roman rite
  2. Discussion of Robert Daly’s recent book, Sacrifice Unveiled
  3. Continuing discussion, especially as it affects Eucharistic praying, of the masculine nature of scriptures, language, and ritual
  4. Discussion of a paper on the sustaining power of the sacraments in the midst of crisis

2009 Academy Meeting Agenda

1.  We will discuss with Robert Daly the conclusion of his book Sacrifice Unveiled, which will be published in the spring.

2.  Jerome Hall will bring a paper on the presence of Christ in the one who proclaims the Eucharistic Prayer.

3.  Deborah Blank, a visitor to our seminar, will share a paper on relationships between Jewish prayer texts and the classical Eucharistic Prayers.

4.  Several other members of the seminar will bring papers and works in progress.
