Nominee for Delegate for Seminars: Amy Schifrin
The
Rev. Amy C. Schifrin: I am currently a Ph.D. candidate at
the Graduate Theological Union in “The Arts, Worship, and Proclamation.” My
dissertation, which I hope to finish this spring, is tentatively entitled, “Give
us Lips to Sing Thy Glory: The Performative Exegesis of the Word through
Preaching and Hymnody.” I hold an M. Div. from Luther-Northwestern
Seminary, a M. Mus. in Theory and Composition from Northwestern University,
and a B. Mus. from Arizona State University.
I have served as a parish, campus, or seminary pastor since my ordination in
1984. I have also served as the Dean of the Chapel (1998-2002) at Pacific Lutheran
Theological Seminary and as adjunct faculty in Liturgical Studies (2000-2002).
During my years as campus pastor at North Dakota State University (1990-1995)
I was an instructor in their Department of Religion, and prior to my seminary
training I taught Music Theory and Piano at Mesa (AZ) Community College (1978-1980).

I have been a contributing member of two seminars at the Academy: Eucharistic
Prayer and Theology, and Word and Worship. I am also a member of The Academy
of Homiletics and The Hymn Society, and have served on the Hymnody Development
Panel of the ELCA’s Renewing Worship project.
