Mission Statement

The work of the Historical Research seminar is not restricted by theme, geographic location, or ecclesiastical tradition, but by time period: our papers and discussions address liturgies and liturgical issues from the sixteenth century to the present. Studies, analyses, and comparisons from various traditions and experiences are invited.

Following last year’s theme, the seminar will continue the discussion of “Not the Usual Suspects” as we explore some figures generally not well-known in the area of liturgical studies. In addition, we will attend to efforts in the area of the historiography of hymnody and church music.
